Mbok Jamu in Solo Street

I was pertrified to learn that she has been selling Jamu (Javanese traditional medicine) for more than 50 years at the same spot; right at one side of Solo Street, Yogyakarta. I didn't know who she was then. But, the curiousity urged me to daringly asked who her name was. She is simply referred to as Mbok....a very casual and yet friendly calling for any Javanese woman at her 50s or more. She is now 67. If what she said is true, then she started selling jamu when she was 17. Hmm? What intrigued me most is the mere fact that she is always surrounded by her customers. Every time I popped into Solo Street, I could see a glimpse of her selling jamu.More on this Mbok Jamu
